I often use the acronym MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment), because it’s easier to type & say, but written out I prefer Mild Neurocognitive Disorder (mNCD). Disorder is a kinder word than impairment. Although, the names are about the same condition. The name was changed from MCI to mNCD in the 5th edition of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, but a lot of medical providers still use the acronym MCI. I also use pre-dementia sometimes, because for me that’s facing my possible future with my eyes wide open.
